How a real giveaway works: organisers, entry methods and draws

The short version

A giveaway is live only while its organiser's own page says so. HGTV, Food Network and TLC each run a twice-daily promotion that closes on October 28, November 10 and October 29, 2026 respectively, all at 8:59 a.m. ET, and each entry pairs the channel's site with Food.com. The dates and the entry method on those pages are the proof, and a forwarded post is only a pointer.

Mr Beast's puzzle promotion: closed, with a winner

Mr Beast's puzzle promotion is finished. The terms page of its sponsor, MrBeastYouTube, LLC, announces a winner and states that the game is now closed. The promotion began at 6:00 p.m. ET on February 8, 2026, and was set to end at 11:59 p.m. ET on April 2, 2026, or as soon as the answer was successfully received, whichever came first.

The official rules fixed a strict order: register at the promotion's website, work out the correct answer, then be the first to submit it to the sponsor. The first correct answer submitted during the promotion period won the grand prize, subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the official rules. Speed decided the winner, and verification decided whether the prize went out. The three steps leave no place for a redeem code, so a code offered in a comment or a message was never part of how the promotion ran.

Entry was open to people aged 18 or over and of the age of majority where they lived, who were also legal residents of the United States, Canada or Mexico. The terms stated that no payment was needed to take part in the contest or to win, and that spending money did not raise anyone's chances of winning.

Two outside pages add detail on how Mr Beast prizes work. Bitdefender's guide to Mr Beast states that he never asks anyone to pay to receive a prize, so a message that demands a fee before any Mr Beast prize is released contradicts that guide. BBB Programs records that the official rules of a Mr Beast Feastables sweepstakes set the minimum age at 13 with parental permission and did not allow entrants under 13. The age line therefore belongs to each promotion: the puzzle promotion asked for 18, the Feastables sweepstakes for 13 with permission.

Finding a live giveaway online: dated organiser pages

Three brands post dated promotions that were open at the last review: HGTV's Trick or Treat Yourself Giveaway, TLC's Dream it, Win it and Food Network's Taste of Fall. All three advertise the same four-figure top prize and close at 8:59 a.m. ET on their last day, so the evening of that day is already too late.

KCRW takes a different shape: its page gathers the KCRW promotions running on-air and online, and entrants can enter any number of them. Patch's rules add two mechanics: follow the instructions on the promotion's own site, and expect one submission to count as one entry, with the number of times you can enter posted on that site.

The dated entries in the table share one pattern: each live promotion prints a closing time and an entry method, while periodic ones such as Cash App's sweepstakes leave only the organiser's own account to confirm them.

A post on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok points toward a promotion and does not replace the organiser's rules page. A YouTube video or a Reddit thread works the same way.

  • A closing date and time with its time zone, as HGTV, Food Network and TLC print it.
  • An entry method that says which site, how often and how many times you can enter.
  • The organiser's own name, which decides whether a message claiming to come from it holds up.

Cash App sweepstakes: official Twitter account, never a sign-in code or PIN

Cash App names its official Twitter account as a home for its sweepstakes: the Cash App team holds periodic sweepstakes there. That is the format in Cash App's own words, and it carries a fixed limit. Those sweepstakes never require participants to give anyone their sign-in code or PIN.

Cash App also draws the line on fakes. A giveaway claiming to be from Cash App on an unverified account, or one that reaches you through a DM, is not from Cash App. A message that arrives as a DM, on Discord or anywhere else, falls under the same warning, and so does any offer that asks for a sign-in code.

Whether a Cash App sweepstakes is running today is a question only the official Twitter account can settle.

Picker tools: public posts in, one winner out

A picker draws a winner from the replies or reposts on a post, and Sorsa's giveaway picker page spells out what the host sets up first. The rules go in the post itself: which actions count, any required keyword or hashtag, the number of winners and the deadline. Each account gets one entry, because extra replies or reposts never add tickets.

Two conditions follow for anyone entering. The post and the account stay public until the winner is announced, and the picker cannot read private or deleted posts, so an entry on a post that vanishes cannot be drawn. A tool that reads replies and reposts starts from the same public-post model, which is why a repeated reply adds nothing.

A draw tool settles one thing: who is picked from what it can read. Eligibility, the prize and the claim stay with the organiser's rules.

Whatnot rules: no cash prizes, no prizes tied to a sale

Whatnot's Help Center sets two hard lines. Its overview of giveaways says cash cannot be given away on the platform, with collectible currency as the only exception. Its prize policy strictly prohibits purchase-based prizes, meaning any sale or contest in which the buyer of one item gains a chance at an additional item, a game entry or another prize.

The permitted side is stated just as plainly. Follower-only giveaways and other games that ask for no payment are allowed. A cash prize is off the table unless it is collectible currency.

For an entrant, the two rules sort Whatnot offers quickly. A free game or a follower-only draw fits the policy; a seller who says an item in a sale also enters you for another prize does not. Whatnot's pages set what sellers are allowed to run, and they do not make any one seller's promise come true.

Who can enter and who wins: what each organiser's rules fix

Legality is settled by each promotion's own terms and each platform's own policy. The Mr Beast puzzle promotion admitted adults resident in three countries; HGTV, Food Network and TLC tie entry to their own pages and closing times; Whatnot bars cash and sale-linked prizes. A legal question about one promotion belongs with a lawyer who reads its rules.

Odds are what no page can supply: the chance of winning depends on how many others enter, and no organiser's rules fix that in advance. Each entry is one chance among many, and a scam leans on that uncertainty by asking for a fee or a sign-in code before any prize appears. The loot is whatever the official rules list, and nothing added in a comment or a message counts.

The route

  1. Find the organiser's own page

Start on the page of the brand or station that runs the promotion, such as HGTV, Food Network, TLC or KCRW's promotions page. A link or screenshot from a feed is a pointer to that page, and the page holds the dates and rules.

  2. Read the entry method and its limit

Follow the instructions on the promotion's own site, as Patch's giveaway rules put it. HGTV, Food Network and TLC allow entry twice daily, once on the channel's site and once on Food.com, while Patch says one submission equals one entry and posts the allowed number on the page.

  3. Match your age and residence to the rules

Eligibility sits inside each set of rules. The Mr Beast puzzle promotion admitted adults of the age of majority living in the United States, Canada or Mexico, while a Mr Beast Feastables sweepstakes described by BBB Programs set its minimum at 13 with permission.

  4. Check what the organiser never asks for

Cash App says its sweepstakes never require a sign-in code or PIN, and Bitdefender's guide says Mr Beast never asks anyone to pay to receive a prize. A DM or an unverified account claiming to be Cash App is not from Cash App.

  5. Note the closing time and the draw

HGTV's promotion closes at 8:59 a.m. ET on October 28, 2026. The Mr Beast puzzle promotion went to the first correct answer, subject to verification, and a picker draw depends on the post staying public until the winner is announced.

Questions from entrants

Are giveaways free?

Yes. Entry is free when the organiser's rules say no payment is needed, as the Mr Beast puzzle promotion's terms did, and Whatnot bars any prize tied to a sale. Bitdefender's guide says Mr Beast never asks anyone to pay to receive a prize, so a fee demanded for a prize marks a fake, not a step.

Are giveaways real?

Yes. A promotion is real when the organiser is named and the dates, the entry method and the rules sit on its own page, as they do for HGTV, Food Network and TLC. Even then each entry is only a chance: the Mr Beast puzzle promotion ended with exactly one winner, and Cash App says an offer from an unverified account or a DM is not from Cash App.

Is giveaway one word?

Yes. As a noun, giveaway is one word, while the verb is two words: give away. An organiser holds a giveaway, then gives the prize away, and Whatnot and Patch both use the one-word noun in their page titles.

Can you giveaway cash on Whatnot?

No. Cash cannot be given away on Whatnot, with collectible currency as the one exception, according to the platform's Help Center overview of giveaways. The prize policy adds that sales tying a prize to an item are strictly prohibited, while follower-only games that ask for no payment are permitted.

Is Cash App doing a giveaway?

Yes. Cash App says its team holds periodic sweepstakes on its official Twitter account, so that account is the place to check for a current one. Those sweepstakes never require a sign-in code or PIN, and an offer from an unverified account or a DM is not from Cash App.

How to find giveaways?

Finding a live promotion starts on the organiser's own page: HGTV, Food Network and TLC post closing dates, and KCRW gathers its on-air and online promotions in one place. A feed post or a DM is a pointer at best and has to lead back to a page like those.

Is Mr Beast giveaway over?

Yes. The Mr Beast puzzle promotion is over: its terms page announces a winner and states that the game is closed. The promotion began on February 8, 2026, and was set to end on April 2, 2026, or as soon as the answer was received.

What this guide will not do

No promotion can be counted on to pay out, and this guide cannot confirm that any promotion is still open after its review date. Organisers decide eligibility, winners and prize claims, and platforms run their own checks. A contest that demands payment before it releases a prize falls outside every rule quoted here. The guide gives no legal advice.

Two sets of rules, and both can bite

A prize contest that counts votes or likes on a social platform sits under two sets of rules. Meta prohibits selling, buying or exchanging engagement such as likes and shares, and Reddit bans accounts, temporarily or permanently, for vote manipulation. Organisers add their own penalties: BET's sweepstakes rules disqualified attempts to cast votes that were exchanged, bought or received by one person from multiple accounts.

The voter the rules describe

Organisers describe an ordinary voter in their rules. Disney's Mousequerade sweepstakes let each entrant vote once and voided votes above that limit from the same person, email address or household, and the BBC Radio 1 Dance Awards treated votes outside the announced hours as invalid. Ordinary participation therefore comes from separate people inside the period; this describes what organisers count and is not a way past what they check.

Sweepstakes law, and the orders we refuse

In the United States, the FTC says real sweepstakes are free and decided by chance, and calls it illegal to ask you to pay or buy something to enter or to increase your odds of winning. That is why no order for votes is taken for a sweepstakes, giveaway or raffle. A contest decided by public vote is a different kind of thing, and whether paying for votes in one is lawful where you live is a question for a lawyer. Political ballots are refused too.

What a refund can and cannot undo

Votes ordered for a poll or contest that never appear in its count are refunded once the organiser's voting has closed. Timing is the organiser's call: National Geographic did not count likes, shares or other activity before its voting period began, and Sports & Social may end text voting early. A result, a disqualification or a voided vote stays with the organiser.
